As were most of you, we were caught off guard this afternoon when a corporate e-mail was sent to the Flight Attendant population providing Social Media Guidance that was confusing and, in some cases, in conflict with existing corporate social media policies.
Within minutes of the statement being sent out, we heard from senior leadership advising us this e-mail was sent prematurely and outside of the requisite review process. As a result, the e-mail is being recalled and the message will be re-drafted and restated. Despite the perhaps well-intended effort to get in front of the issue, the message missed the mark and most certainly will only introduce an additional layer of confusion that we must work to avoid. Be assured the message will be restated to be consistent with existing policies before being distributed in the days ahead.
Effective for travel originating on May 9, 2017, Flight Attendants utilizing the Southwest Reciprocal Cabin Seat Agreement will be required to list online using the myIDTravel site. The listing process will be similar to that used for listing on American, jetBlue and Virgin America. Once the transition to the online listing tool becomes effective on May 9th, all listings will be self-managed.
